I have the honour to inform you that soon
after my arrival there were laid before me the following applica- -tions for increases of salary owing to increased cost of living in the Colony.
(a). From members of the Civil Service who are not on Sterling Salaries or in receipt of Exchange
Compensation.
(b). From Junior Assistant Lasters in Queen's College.
(c). From Survey Staff, Public Works Department. (d). From Overseers, Public Works Department. (e). From Sanitary Inspectors.
(f). From Wardmesters, edical Department.
(g). From European Police on Dollar Salaries.
(h). From European Police on Sterling Salaries.
(1). From European Warders, Victoria Gaol.
(j). From individuals including Station Officer and
Assistant Engineer, Fire Brigade: Third Inter-
-preter, Supreme Court: Head-mistress, Kowloon
British School: and Assistant Mistress,
Belilios Public School.

In connection with these applications and with certain increases in salaries of subordinate employees, dealt with 46 in uy Despatch No. 375 of the 31st. October, 1912, a general in-
-crease in salaries was recommended to me involving an annual
